Aktun Chen

The cave system is thought to have formed 5 million years ago. It is comprised of 600 meters ( 663 yards ) of fabulous stalactite and stalagmite landscapes and at the end of the system there is a cenote about 112 meters ( 367 ft ) deep.

In the beautiful tropical jungle, 107 km from Cancun , between Akumal and Xel-Ha, you will find the Aktun-Chen caves, in Maya: “the cave with cenote inside”. Before you enter the caves, you can enjoy tropical jungle and exotic wildlife at its best. An easy walk through the caves, will show you fantastic formations of stalactites and stalagmites, built five millon years ago by water and calcium carbonate.

The caverns of Aktun Chen feature thousands of stalactite and stalagmite formations, as well as clear 40- foot-deep cenote. Lighting and a foot path have made it easy to explore the inside of the largest of the three caves, which is 600 yards long. Around the site, visitors can hike through jungle trails or join a jungle tour aboard four-wheel all-terrain vehicles (ATVs)
