| Xel Ha or “portion of water” lies 113 kilometers north of Carrillo Puerto. Time has slowly transformed the Quintana Roo reef and created a beautiful cove at Xel Ha, a natural aquarium formed by a series of lagoons that are interconnected by underground tunnels.
Thanks to its innate beauty and ecological importance, this spot has now been declared a national park dedicated to the preservation and production of marine species.
Visitors may swim in the transparent water and observe the magnificent spectacle offered by a myriad of colored fish that live in and around the reef.
The Xel Ha archeological zone is located within the jungle and is comprised of a large pyramid formed by four stepped bodies. It is historically associated with the Maya constructions of enigmatic Tulum. |
